The Principles of Good Design
It is always a pleasure to see how many different ways our garden rooms and studios add to their owner’s worlds; taking on a variety of functions, from library spaces to pilates studios and garden offices. It is also not unusual to see the space becoming an extension of living areas, or even a spare room. The only consistent factor is that every new garden room is designed with the same principles and integrity as our very first prototype.
This is because we believe in design, and that all design should be good. Good design affects every element of a product, a space or experience. It is not the way something looks, the way it works or how it makes you feel, but in fact all of these things combined – because good design is integral.
A great source of inspiration comes from industrial designer, Dieter Rams – who’s ideology from the 1970’s still holds relevance today. Rams’ Ten Principles of Good Design speaks of design being innovative, honest, aesthetically-pleasing and long-lasting – amongst others. Many of his products are still manufactured today, including the iconic 606 Universal Shelving System by Vitsoe.
We are proud that many customers have chosen 3rdSpace garden rooms and studios, since we began in 2010, seeing good design going to a good home.
